"Role Models" does not qualify as a black movie. However, it
should be scrutinized for its' total exploitation of an ongoing
black stereotype: the fatherless, incorrigible, profane, black male
child once again "saved" by a white mentor (who, in this case, is
worse than the child).
If I were talented enough to write and produce a movie, I would
not feature a young brother I wouldn't take to the movie because
of its' "under-the-bottom" (some might say "over-the-top") content.
I give it one popcorn bag, begrudgingly, because, unfortunately,
the characters - stereotypical though they were - were played
well, making them almost believable.
What I can't believe is that there is no hue and cry from the black
community, protesting this kind of promotion of Black decadence
in film. Has it become so repetitive - out of "liberal" Hollywood (a
euphamism for the industry)- that we, simply accept it as the
norm? Not this 66 year-old R.O.S.(Really Old School) brother.
One bag of popcorn. No butter!

CARL BOYD SAYS:
I feel that putting these two men in this movie was a great idea.
This movie was good. I laughed from the time it came on to the
time it went off. And unfortunately with it being Bernie Macs last
movie, it was good and ended very well. Something for the
people to look back on.
