discover her life is a hot mess. She has no man, no job
But all of that is about to change because her overbearing,
backwards family is there to support her. And the best
part is that she is about to meet a man who is handsome,
ambitious, successful and makes prince charming look
like a chump. Here are your choices:
a) Diary of a Mad Black Woman
b) Meet the Browns
c) Why Did I Get Married
d) Every Tyler Perry movie you've ever seen
If you picked (d), then you know where I'm coming from. "Meet The Browns," based on the successful
stage play of the same name, is another familiar Tyler Perry plot. Unfortunately, it is not as good as
"Diary Of A Mad Black Woman." It's as if Perry dug into the vaults, dusted off this script and said, "This
will do."
I'm so over the "ghetto Cinderella" storyline that I can't even get to the bad acting, wasted talent
(somebody please send Angela Bassett a good script), and stale cast of Perry regulars. Even the
outtakes at the end were not funny.
The DVD extas are interesting. However you really have to be familiar with previous works of the
featured actors to truly enjoy their commentary. I'd rather spend a day with The Manns, a.k.a. Cora
and Leroy, than the Browns. Unfortunately, the extras suffer from Perry's inability to know when
enough is enough.
Overall, "Meet the Browns" is a less than average movie, and the DVD extras are just okay. So I'm
giving this DVD release 1 out of 5 popcorn bags.

Eddie Murphy’s latest attempt at being funny, "Meet Dave," is so incredibly stupid it’s hard to believe it
actually got made. At least “Belly,” which is a terrible movie, has good music and you will chuckle a
few times at the cinematic insanity of “Pootie Tang.” But unlike those classically bad black movies,
“Meet Dave” has absolutely positively nothing to offer but misery and the shock and awe at Murphy’s
executed movie based on a ludicrous premise or watching one of your favorite actors embarrass him
self for what was hopefully a rather large paycheck.
In “Meet Dave” Murphy is a spaceship! Yes, Murphy is an actual spaceship that is being guided by a
miniature crew led by Murphy who is inside of his own head. Naw, I have not been smokin’ but
someone in Hollywood is apparently addicted to the bong. Murphy is a spaceship in a white Gordon
Gecko era suit! Do I need to say anymore? Of course I do…
The spaceship, that looks like Murphy – in a white suit no doubt, lands with a thud in New York where
Murphy the captain Kirk of himself controls the spaceship which is himself as his crew of aliens
including a very unsexy looking and ghetto acting Gabrielle Union attempt to adjust to American
lifestyle customs. Poor results ensue. Not one joke is original. Not one joke is clever. Not one joke is
funny. Did I mention how annoying and unfunny comedian Kevin Hart is in the movie? In “Meet Dave”
he makes his work in “Soul Plane” Denzelesque.
When Murphy is focused he’s brilliant. When he delivers his A-game he’s the best comedic actor of
our generation. Hell, he should already own three Oscars. Seriously. One for co-writing the insanely
funny script for the witty satire “Coming to America.” Another for his gifted multiple rule performance
in “The Nutty Professor.” And one for damn sure for his strong supporting role in “Dreamgirls.” But
since that movie, Murphy has released “Norbit” an insensitive, misogynistic and stereotypical piece
of crap that surprisingly grossed close to $100 million domestically and “Meet Dave” a sci-fi throw
away aimed at people with low levels of humor. I can hardly wait for “Beverly Hills Cop 4!”
